What Happened Last Time: The 2010 Wine Tasting Event & Silent Auction
Spring arrived a day early this
year as the Foundation held its
7th annual signature event, For
The Love of Raymond, May 20th.
Sponsored by Incredible Wine
and Spirits and the Daniels
College of Business at the
University of Denver, the event
took place at the College’s
School of Hotel, Restaurant and
Tourism Management, the perfect venue for sampling wine while
raising funds for cancer patients and their families in need.
Incredible Wine and Spirits and their distributors provided an
Incredible variety – over 20 fine wines from the premier wine
making regions of the world – enough choices to satisfy the most
discriminating oenophile or the casual connoisseur. Nearly 100
businesses provided items for the live and silent auctions. A
highlight of the event was hearing Dr. David Schrier, founder of
The Raymond Wentz Foundation, share Raymond’s story and talk
of his family’s experiences with this courageous teenager who
inspired the work of the Foundation.
Board Chair Meg Lemon
announced this year’s event was
the most successful in our history,
thanks to the generous support of the community. After expenses, more than $70,000 was raised to go directly to Colorado cancer patients struggling to meet basic needs. This would not have been possible without the outpouring
of support from individuals and companies that sponsored
this year’s event (see our website for
the full list).
The Event Committee, chaired by board member, Karen Bacon, included Holly Eike, Justine Foy, Sally Hutton, Sue Kinne, Louise Richardson, and Jamie Steese. Kudos to the Committee and to Laura Nelson who helped coordinate auction transactions – they truly showed us what teamwork is all about.
Emcee Molly Hughes did double duty as the spirited auctioneer for the Live Auction, featuring such items as a magnum of Domaine Serene Pinot Noir, a private wine tasting with William Davis, one of Colorado’s premier sommeliers, and two tickets and backstage passes from KYGO to a Tim McGraw concert.
A lovely spring evening, wines donated by Incredible, hors
d-oeuvres prepared by the School’s culinary staff, wonderful
auction items, and a lively crowd of nearly 300 supporters made
this 7th year a night to remember. As the evening drew to a
close, there was already talk of the 2011, 8th annual wine
tasting – though everyone agreed this year’s event will be a tough
act to follow.
